FloorGem - Wood Floor Refinishing
Floorgem offers the finest hardwood floor restoration and refinishing services in Maryland and Washington D.C. Refinishing your hardwood floors is a great way to restore the natural beauty in the wood. A beautiful floor lies underneath the wear and damage that comes from years of foot traffic. Restoring your old hardwood will bring out that fresh look and vastly improve the look and feel of your home.
Floorgem sands and refinishes new hardwood floors, too. If you are moving into a new home or are looking for someone to finish floors on a new piece of real estate, leave it to the experts at Floorgem. Our skilled craftsman will ensure a long lasting beautiful finish on your new wood floors that will be a highlight in your home.
We can use a variety of products on your floor refinishing project. We use environmentally friendly polyurethane and oil varnishes. Both products are great choices. What to choose for yourself depends on your personal tastes. Oil based varnishes tend to have a greater sheen to them than do the water based polyurethane. The water based polyurethane will take less time to dry than oil based finishes.
After sanding, the new sealant on your hardwood flooring will take time to cure. You will want to limit yourself to light foot traffic after twenty four hours of us completing the job. You may move furniture back on the flooring forty eight hours after we complete the job. Moving in any sooner may be too soon and cause preemptive damage to your newly finished floors!
Hardwood Floor Care
Use area rugs in high traffic areas. Doorways, hallways, stairs, and in front of major appliances. These are all places of high foot traffic and will wear out faster than the rest of your floor. Protect the finish of your newly refinished hardwood floors with strategically placed rugs and mats.
Keep water away from your floor. Water is the number one cause of damage to hardwood floors. Make sure not to drench your floor in water, even when cleaning. If water seeps into the cracks and gets into your flooring, it can cause separation of the boards, warping, and damage.
Keep your hardwood floors clean. The cleaner you keep your floors, the longer the nice finish will last. Dirt, grit, and small pebbles get tracked into your home by people’s shoes on a regular basis. When this debris gets trapped between a foot and the hardwood floor, it grinds against it, causing scratching, wear, and abrasion.
Beware of shoes, especially high heels! High heels can put multiple dings in a floor in a matter of days. Many high heels come with protective covers on the heel but they can easily come of from normal walking. These can leave tiny gouges everywhere in their path. Our best advice is to just not wear them on your floor.
